    The Opportunity - The Resident Counselor (RC) position is an important part of Middle-Level Leadership Camp.  Being an RC is an opportunity to:

    • Serve middle-level students
    • Test your leadership skills
    • Gain practical teaching experience
    • Work as a team with other student leaders from across the state
    • Grow in positive, life-changing ways

    The Role of an RC: The RC staff work with the adult staff (Team Counselors or TCs) to provide a positive leadership camp experience for all delegates.  Your primary duties as an RC will include:

    • Supervising dorms and establishing positive community living spaces
    • Creating an inclusive and safe camp environment 
    • Supporting the TCs as "teaching assistants" in the mixed delegate camp teams
    • Promoting camp spirit through songs, skits, and social activities
    • Assisting with camp logistics
    • Being an amazing role model

     

    RC Training – Each camp director will schedule the RC Training.  This training allows the RCs to form a team, learn essential leadership skills, and understand their specific camp role & duties.

    Attending the RC Training for a camp session is critical to the RCs' success at camp.

    Application Deadline - May 15th

    RCs are asked to work at just one of the camp sessions, though you may apply for more than one camp session. You must mail a completed application packet to the director of each session for which you are applying.

     

    About Middle-Level Leadership Camp -
    Middle-Level Camp opened its doors in 1993 with one camp and served 137 delegates.  Today, more than 800 delegates representing over 200 schools from around the state attend one of the four middle-level summer leadership camps.

    The camp curriculum keeps the delegates active from breakfast (8:00 a.m.) until lights out (10:30 p.m.)  Some of the activities at camp include idea sharing, elective classes, performance and public speaking skills, officer responsibilities, organized recreation, project planning, sensitivity to others, and goal setting.
